SUMO

This are several images from my past project. For a long time I was fascinated by the Japanese culture, and this project gave me a chance to research it in reasonable depth. The way i came to it was a bit strange though, at least it was hard for my fellow students to understand that. Beginning of my sketchbook was full of drawings of naked women, middle full of fat naked women and the end had loads of fat men: the Sumo wrestlers.

I loved this subject as it was so easy to draw; there are loads of rounded shapes. I experimented in different mediums among which was printmaking, painting and ink drawing. On later stages images were enhanced in Photoshop as part of my project was to do with designing a product, packaging as well as logos and posters. As they would have had to be reproduced multiple times, this was the easier way.

Blobers

This was done during today as part of an exercise which was to do with further developing a character. We were taught that at this stage we should simplify our characters as animation is time consuming as it is, as I understood, with the level of our skill not at very top we should go for quick kills and victories.

This is an animatic that shows, what I intended as a dragon or a dinosaur, evading a falling object. I just did the key poses, which are almost perfect to be united by generating the in-between frames. May be one day:]

The First

I think to kick-start this blog, it is necessary to show some of my own work and explain it a little bit. This is my first real animation attempt as part of my foundation course. This short clip was intended as an out-take from a commercial devoted to an underwater community of Kavachi. It was hard to find the right track for this animation but thanks to a small suggestion I had a look at the Lemon Jelly and I found what I was after. I am pleased with this attempt and hope to do that sort of
stuff in the future.

When this animation was made I had no
idea about what makes an animation work,
and at that stage the only support I was
getting was to do with technicalities of Flash
but even so I won a competition and was one
of 4 who was awarded. (Though I must point
out that award was given not only for the
animation but also for the poster, shirt and
a coloring book design.) The only problem
now is youtube as the quality of export is
just suffocating; I will attempt to make it
better soon enough.
